I know this album came out earlier this year, but in case you missed it, mirah and thao is a pretty great combination.

i really like the 3rd song, little cup…also, i saw mirah play a house party under the williamsburg bridge this summer (with tarah jane o’neill), and that woman has PIPES.

M83 – Hurry Up We’re Dreaming

Incredible band, been around for awhile but this is definitely their best album yet (came out in Oct). Their range spans from indie/electronica to shoegaze to prog. If you need more reason to spend time with this 22-track 2-disc album, they absolutely killed it on Fallon last night, which is what reminded me to share this album with you: http://www.latenightwithjimmyfallon.com/video/m83-midnight-city-112111/1369921/

Patrick’s Post…

A while back Lettini shared this video of Tune-Yards playing with the Roots on Jimmy Fallon:

I found it on Rdio and haven’t stopped listening since. It sounds so different from everything else I listen to and that makes my ears happy. You should give it a shot:

Doug’s been waiting…

…for the holidays so he can recommend this album by Dirk Powell:

He is one of the best old time musicians alive today. This album has the old time sound of fretless instruments and clawhammer style banjo applied to classic Christmas music. It rocks.

Barry Says…

I’ve been listening to Duke (by Genesis) a ton over the past few months.

This is Genesis just before they became complete pop sensations, but after Peter Gabriel had left. (I actually like most of the pop incarnation of Genesis as well.) One interesting thing with Genesis is how the drums are so forward in the mix. I don’t know of another reasonably recognizable band that mixed this way. Obviously Mr. Collins was a big influence in the studio. :)

Anyway, an album at the crossroads between prog rock and pop. And the album cover is pretty sweet. Enjoy.

Brian Eno - Apollo: Atmospheres and Soundtracks

Saw an AWESOME documentary called For All Mankind, which consists of footage from the Apollo missions, with VO from the astronauts, and an amazing soundtrack by Brian Eno. This is that soundtrack! It sounds exactly how outer space would sound, if it wasn’t a vacuum in which no sound could exist. An Ending (Ascent) is what they closed the movie with, and it’s just terrific.
